You may be the best candidate for a job, but if your resume is bad, you'll
never get a call for an interview. Employers use the resume to screen "out"
more than to screen "in."

If there are any spelling or grammatical errors on your resume, you're out. If it
is too difficult to read (small font, lack of white space, formatting
inconsistencies, and so on), you're also out.

Most people don't stop and think about it, but looked at this way, the resume
takes on a new importance: it can affect the length of your job search and the
quality of your next job. Both of these mean money to you. A good resume
can shorten your job search, so you can go back to earning money. A good
resume can also get you interviews for the jobs you want at the salary you
deserve.
Nothing says more to an employer than typographical errors and poor grammar. Your resume is an example of
your writing ability, and if it has errors, you are sending a bad message to an employer.
They may assume that your work, like your resume, tends to be careless and needs to be checked constantly.
Use your computer’s spell-checker, but don’t count on it to find misplaced or misused words!

don't need to reinvent the wheel everytime you want to drive somewhere, and you don't need a whole new
résumé format and concept everytime you go looking for work.

What you do need to keep in mind, however, is that things do change from year to year. For a while, scanning
technology played a role in how Americans find work. Now, I'd have to say it's more important that you be sure to
use the best available version of MS Word to ensure you can e-mail your résumé with confidence.

have to sit back and wait for the job offers to come rolling in. They'll be glad to guarantee you that you will get a
job. In almost any parlance, this is what is called a sucker bet.

Think for a minute how hard it would be to go through the rest of your life without getting a job. No, you will get
another job — whether you find it on your own or someone else helps you. The only real question is, How long
will it take? — and that timetable is set entirely by you.
